[Ancient Gold Appraisal] Buying and selling Yuan Shikai One Yuan Commemorative Coins from the Founding of the Republic of China

The Yuan Shikai portrait commemorative coin is one of the rarest and most important pattern coins among the coins of the Republic of China. Issued in 1912 in the early years of the Republic, the portrait on this coin was once mistakenly identified as that of Cheng Dequan, a warlord from Suzhou. For Chinese coin collectors, the Yuan Shikai portrait commemorative coin has always been considered a mysterious coin. Its mystery lies in the unclear location and time of its minting, the unknown person who ordered its production, and the identity of the prototype of the portrait. The coin's design clearly follows the style of the 1912 Sun Yat-sen and Li Yuanhong portrait commemorative coins. The obverse features a three-quarter portrait of a man, surrounded by a double circle, with floral decorations on the left and right and the inscription "Republic of China" (中华民国) below. The reverse features a vertical inscription of "One Yuan" (一圆) in the center, flanked by ears of grain, also surrounded by a double circle. The upper edge is inscribed with "THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA" (中华民国), and the lower edge with "ONE DOLLAR" (一圆). The design and inscription on the obverse and reverse of this coin are modeled after the 1912 commemorative coin featuring portraits of Li Yuanhong and Sun Yat-sen, except that the portraits are different and the English text on the reverse is not separated by floral stars.
