Introduction: The 1980 Year of the Monkey stamp was the first zodiac stamp issued after the founding of the People's Republic of China, hence its prominent status and high price. Secondly, the limited issuance of the Year of the Monkey stamp inevitably leads to higher prices. As the first stamp in the 1980 Year of the Monkey series, it was originally planned to have an issuance of 8 million, but considering that people's philatelic awareness had not yet been stimulated, after repeated consideration, it was decided to issue 5 million.
Coupled with printing difficulties and a low yield rate, only 4,431,600 stamps passed inspection. The sheets of stamps were distributed to post offices across the country and then sold separately, making the remaining quantity of complete sheets of monkey stamps extremely rare. This laid the foundation for the later surge in the price of monkey stamps.
