What is a Yuan Shikai silver dollar?

It was one of the main currencies circulating during the Republic of China period. "Yuan Datou" is a common name for the Yuan Shikai series of coins. More accurately, it's called the "Yuan Shikai Portrait with Ears of Grain Silver Coin." To regulate the currency system and standardize silver coins, Article 13 of the "National Currency Regulations" was promulgated in February of the third year of the Republic of China, deciding to implement a silver standard. The "National Currency Regulations" stipulated: "The unit of price is 6.48 qian of pure silver, named Yuan"; "One Yuan silver coin weighs 7.2 qian, with 89% silver and 11% copper"; "There is no limit to the number of one Yuan silver coins in circulation," meaning one Yuan silver coin was the standard currency with unlimited legal compensation. Based on this regulation, in December 1914 and February 1915, the Central Mint and the Jiangnan Mint respectively minted a round silver coin with Yuan Shikai's portrait on the obverse, commonly known as the Yuan Head Coin or Yuan Datou.
