Inspecting the coin without alteration
Construction and joins: Photograph the complete obverse and reverse square to the camera, then the full rim and edge in overlapping segments. Show date, denomination, issuing text, mint marks and edge lettering only where they are actually legible.
Dimensions and scale: Record diameter, thickness, stated weight if present and measured weight with units visible. A capsule, sleeve or presentation case stays outside the coin-only scale reading.
Separate materials: Keep capsule, certificate and packaging associated with the coin but separately identified. Do not assume that a certificate matches until its issuer, specification and identifying details agree with the object.
Handle the coin by protected edges
Leave the surface uncleaned and avoid bare-finger pressure on either face. If the capsule opens normally it may be photographed separately, but it should not be broken or cut merely to obtain a scale image.
Metal evidence and coin evidence are different
