Item details and appraisal notes
This group brings together wedding necklaces and older gold jewellery under a pure-gold claim. Every necklace must keep its own clasp, hallmark, length, repairs, detachable pendant and weight; one mark or test result cannot be spread across the group.
Wedding gold necklaces: construction, fineness and weight
| Feature | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Object type | necklace group |
| Structure to photograph | Each chain, fastening, jump ring, hallmark and visible solder point. |
| Measurements and weight | Length, chain width and weight for each necklace. |
| Separate components | Number every necklace and keep pendants or originally detachable fittings with the correct piece. |
| Purity boundary | The pure-gold wording does not supply a numerical fineness. Test and weigh each necklace separately, then apply the appraisal-date reference price only to the confirmed gold content of that numbered piece. |
Inspecting the wedding gold necklaces without alteration
Construction and joins: Assign a number to each necklace and photograph its entire chain, clasp, end rings, hallmark, solder points and visible repairs. Keep wedding sets and unrelated vintage pieces in separate image groups.
Dimensions and scale: Record length, chain width and individual gross weight for every necklace. A group photograph is useful for scale, but it cannot replace separate measurements and scale readings.
Separate materials: Keep each pendant or designed-to-detach fitting with the correct necklace. Do not cut soldered links, and do not assume that clasps, tags or later repairs share the chain's fineness.
Separate chains before they tangle
Lay each necklace flat in its own numbered pouch, with loose pendants wrapped separately. Do not polish mixed pieces together or fasten a broken chain temporarily for a complete-looking photograph.
Keeping a mixed necklace group traceable
- Individual numbering: Place the same number beside the full chain, hallmark close-up, clasp, repair and scale image so no detail migrates to another necklace.
- Clasp and link wear: Follow each necklace from fastening to end ring under consistent light. Show stretched links, replaced catches and added solder at their exact positions.
- Pendants and set pieces: State which pendant belongs to which chain and whether it detaches by design. Wedding-set provenance may add context but does not replace a fineness test.

Group jewellery weighing guidance
For piece-by-piece preparation, use Gold and Jewellery and keep Gold Handover: Itemised Weights and Non-Gold Components. The method should be repeated for every necklace rather than averaged across the group.
