The Second Series of Renminbi1956 Yellow 5 Yuan vs. Red 5 Yuan - Gu Jin Jian Bao

In 1956, the People's Bank of China issued two banknotes with a face value of five yuan, namely the"Red Five Yuan"and the"Yellow Five Yuan."
The"Red Five Yuan"and"Yellow Five Yuan"are essentially identical in appearance except for the"red"and"yellow"colors. The differences between the two versions are: the watermarks are also different. The main differences between the Red Five Yuan and Yellow Five Yuan lie in the color of the print and the watermark. We can visually observe the color difference with the naked eye. As for the watermark, the Red Five Yuan only has a solid five-pointed star pattern mixed watermark, while the Yellow Five Yuan has both a solid five-pointed star pattern mixed watermark and a hollow five-pointed star watermark.

Differences between Seagull 5 Yuan and Yellow 5 Yuan:

1. Direct light to check the watermark difference
The star watermark is a hollow five-pointed star, with a certain tilt, covering the entire banknote. The seagull watermark is a seagull-shaped cluster surrounding a solid five-pointed star watermark. The seagull watermark also has two other names, one called"Cloud Map"and the other"Plum Blossom and Star."

2. Check the serial number, which is the first three Roman numerals.
There are only 12 types of serial numbers for the seagull watermark, which are different sequential combinations of IVVII and IVIX. Other serial numbers have star watermarks. Of course, be wary of altered numbers. The 56 version of the 5 yuan with the seagull watermark only has two sets of Roman numeral serial numbers, totaling 12 permutations and combinations. All other 1956 5 yuan notes have star watermarks.

Professional Advice for Collectors: Daily Protection and Maintenance of Old Banknotes

If you currently hold a1956 Red 5 Yuan banknoteand wish to obtain the highest valuation inold RenminbiBuybackin the future, correct storage methods are crucial:

  1. Avoid touching with bare hands:Sweat and oils from human hands accelerate the oxidation and yellowing of banknotes. Always wear clean cotton gloves or use professional banknote tweezers when handling.
  2. Moisture-proof and light-proof:Ultraviolet rays are the culprit behind banknote fading, and humid environments can easily breed mold. Please store banknotes in a dry, cool place, preferably in a moisture-proof box, and control the relative humidity at around 50%.
  3. Use professional encapsulation:It is recommended to place valuable old banknotes in acid-free banknote protection sleeves (protectors), or send them to a professional grading institution for hard case encapsulation. Avoid using ordinary plastic bags or directly sticking them with clear tape.
