The difference between the yellow and red 5-yuan notes of the second edition of Renminbi from 1956 - Ancient Gold Appraisal

In 1956, the People's Bank of China issued two denominations of five-yuan banknotes: the "red five-yuan" and the "yellow five-yuan".
The "Red Five Yuan" and "Yellow Five Yuan" are indeed virtually indistinguishable in appearance, except for the colors "red" and "yellow." The main difference lies in their printing plates and watermarks. The colors are visually apparent, while the red five yuan note only has a mixed watermark of solid five-pointed stars, while the yellow five yuan note has both solid and hollow five-pointed star watermarks.

The difference between the Seagull Five Yuan and the Yellow Five Yuan:

1. The difference in watermarks when viewed directly under light
The star watermark is a hollow five-pointed star with a certain degree of tilt, covering the entire surface of the ticket. The seagull watermark is a watermark in the shape of a seagull surrounding a solid five-pointed star. The seagull watermark also has two other names: one is "cloud map" and the other is "plum blossom with star".

2. Look at the prefix, which is the first three Roman numerals.
The seagull watermark has only 12 possible prefixes, which are different sequential combinations of IVVII and IVIX. Other prefixes are star watermarks; however, one should be wary of altered serial numbers. The 1956 edition 5-yuan note with the seagull watermark only has two sets of Roman numeral prefixes, with 12 possible permutations; the rest of the 1956 5-yuan notes use star watermarks.
