Item details and appraisal notes
This anklet carries a pure-gold claim, but its actual hallmark and fineness still need confirmation. The clasp, extension section, links, jump rings and worn load points should be followed along the full length before the piece is weighed.
Pure gold anklet: construction, fineness and weight
| Feature | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Object type | anklet |
| Structure to photograph | Fastener, extension section, links, jump rings and load-bearing points. |
| Measurements and weight | Overall length, link width and gross weight. |
| Separate components | List a charm or detachable fitting separately only if the piece was designed to detach. |
| Purity boundary | “Pure gold” is not automatically the same as a numerical fineness or 24K. Keep the anklet's measured gross weight separate from its tested fineness and confirmed gold weight before applying the reference price used on the appraisal date. |
Inspecting the pure gold anklet without alteration
Construction and joins: Lay the anklet in a relaxed line and photograph both sides from clasp to end ring. Add close views of the fastening, extension, link joins, solder and any stretched or repaired section without pulling the chain taut.
Dimensions and scale: Record overall wearable length, link width and gross weight with units visible. If an extension or charm detaches as designed, photograph and weigh it separately before giving a complete total.
Separate materials: A charm, tag or added fitting should be separated only when it was already designed to detach. Do not cut a soldered jump ring or estimate the weight of a suspected non-gold clasp.
From clasp to end ring
- Fastening action: Photograph the clasp closed and, only if it moves freely, open. Show springs, hooks, screws and safety parts without repeated operation.
- Link wear: Use overlapping views along the full chain to locate thinning, stretching, flattened links and repair solder. Compare worn and unworn sections in the same light.
- Extension and charms: Keep every detachable piece with the anklet and state whether it is original, added or uncertain. Show separate weights only when the parts can be removed without alteration.
Support the chain without pulling its weak links
Store the anklet flat in a labelled pouch and avoid knots, polishing or force on a stiff clasp. A broken link or detached charm should remain separate rather than being glued or temporarily wired back.
