Reading the gu profile and Eight Treasures in sequence
Profile and proportions: Show the flared mouth, neck, central swelling, lower body and spreading foot in level front and side views. Measure height, mouth, widest point and foot without lifting the vase by its neck or rim.
Glaze, colour and design: Photograph the turquoise ground under one colour reference, then follow each of the Eight Treasures and every lotus stem around the vase. Separate raised enamel, outlines, washes, gilt or coloured borders, abrasion and later retouching.
Foot, mark and condition: The underside should show the full foot, exposed body, glaze edge and any Qianlong inscription. Mark rim chips, neck cracks, enamel lifting, body joins, foot losses and overpainting on the complete gu form.

- Eight Treasures: Number the emblems in their actual order and show the lotus scroll connecting them. Do not complete an obscured symbol from a standard set if part of the design is missing or restored.
- Ground and enamels: Keep the turquoise colour accurate and use magnified views for flaking, bubbles, scratches and repainting. Avoid moisture or adhesive near loose famille rose enamel.
