Photographs that preserve the silver surface

Condition needs three separate observations
Strike and wear: Compare the portrait, date characters, wreath and denticles at the same scale. Weak strike, circulation wear and later abrasion can affect similar areas, so keep the full-face views beside the close details.
Patina and old cleaning: Leave toning and deposits untouched. Colour breaks, parallel hairlines, wiped fields or an unnaturally bright patch should be photographed under the same light as the surrounding metal.
Damage or repair: Locate chopmarks, deep scratches, rim knocks, bends, plugs, solder or mounting traces on a full view before enlarging them. Damage must stay separate from the description of the original design.
