The obverse features a hydroelectric power station image, printed in purple tones; the reverse features the national emblem and the inscription "People's Bank of China, 5 Jiao" in four languages ​​(Han, Mongolian, Tibetan, and Uyghur) printed in purple tones. It is available in two versions: one without a watermark and one with a five-pointed star watermark. This coin was issued on March 1, 1955, and ceased circulation on January 1, 1979.
