Examining the complete T44M sheet
Overall format: Begin with the entire souvenir sheet. The 1980 date, T44M code, Qi Baishi subject and single-sheet format should all agree; do not add a detail that cannot be seen or supported by the issue information.
Size, gum and margins: Photograph both sides, the title inscription, central design and every margin before moving closer to the gum or a fold. If it sits in an album, show the whole page first, then any hinge mark, thinning, dampness or adhesion.
Local condition: Place yellowing, foxing, creases, missing perforations, stains and adhering paper on the full-sheet image. Use stamp tongs rather than bare fingers, and do not use water or chemicals on the gum.
Three areas that often decide condition
- Perforations and margins: Show the complete P11.5 perforation line and all four margins. Any tear, short perforation or trimmed edge should be visible in an uncropped view.
- Completeness: This issue is one souvenir sheet. Describe a missing or substituted element plainly and do not borrow the layout of another T44 issue.
- Album storage: Photograph the mount, protective sleeve and any surviving outer packaging before movement. Damp, brittle or adhered paper should remain in place for controlled handling.

Capture the front, gum, corners, perforations, margins and any surviving packaging in separate, colour-accurate images. Do not peel the sheet from an album or touch the gum directly; keep the page flat until an adhered area can be handled safely.
