Reading the full-sheet layout
Overall sheet: Start with colour-accurate images of the complete front and back. The 1980 date, T46 code, Monkey design and 8 × 10 arrangement should agree before any local condition is described.
Margins and intersections: Keep all four margins in frame, then photograph factory inscriptions, perforation junctions, folds and the gum. Measure only after the sheet is fully supported, with the tool and unit visible.
Local condition: Map yellowing, foxing, folds, missing perforations, stains, separated joins and adhering paper to a numbered position on the sheet. Photograph any album page or sleeve first, and do not clean the gum.
Inspecting the sheet without breaking it up
| Monkey full sheet condition area | What the photograph should establish |
|---|---|
| Perforations and margins | Inspect P11.5 along every outer edge and through each internal grid junction. |
| All 80 positions | Confirm eight rows by ten columns and identify any missing, substituted or detached stamp. Keep the full sheet distinct from any single stamp. |
| Album and storage history | Show mounts, sleeves, packaging and signs of humidity before movement. Damp, brittle or adhered areas should remain supported and undisturbed. |
Safe photography of gum and margins
Photograph the front, reverse gum, margins and perforation junctions separately, but never tear a join or flatten an old fold to improve the image. Use stamp tongs only where they will not stress the sheet.
Care guidance for a complete sheet
An intact T46 sheet can be supported with advice from Collectible Stamps plus Stamp Mould: Isolation, Documentation and Storage Limits. Do not adapt single-stamp handling by tearing a joined Monkey position.

Questions before an appraisal
What should you check before selling?
What matters depends on the item. Photograph both sides, the edge, hallmarks or base marks, and any damage. Include the original box, certificate or weight information where relevant so we can decide whether an in-person inspection is needed.
