Item details and appraisal notes

A 1949 50 Yuan note with the Train subject should first be shown as a complete paper object. Keep the locomotive scene, value, date and border together on the front, then photograph the entire reverse at the same scale. Prefix, serial and condition details come next, so a railway motif shared by another denomination does not lead to a mistaken identification.

The value must stay beside the named subject

Type distinctionKeep the 50 Yuan value in the same image as the named subject. A railway note at another denomination is not evidence for this example.

A photographic route from face to fine detail

Front and reverse: Use evenly lit, square-on views that include every corner and cut edge. The Train image, 50 Yuan value and 1949 date should remain readable in the full front photograph. Match the reverse scale so paper tone and border width can be compared.

Numbers and inscriptions: Photograph the complete prefix and serial before taking a close view of a weak character. Keep typeface, spacing and surrounding ink visible. Do not infer a missing digit or denomination from a different railway-themed banknote.

Paper history: Locate creases, foxing, water staining, pinholes, tears, trimming, pressing, backing or tape on the appropriate side. Use raking light for texture and neutral light for colour. Pair every enlarged defect with the full face on which it occurs.

Protect the note while the images are made

Support the paper on a flat, dry surface and avoid forcing an old fold open. Do not clean, bleach, press or laminate the banknote. An inert sleeve and low light are preferable after photography, with any old label stored alongside rather than over the print.

Three checks before a comparison

  1. Earlier treatment: Show washing, pressing, backing, repaired tears or tape without trying to improve them. A second light angle is safer than physical intervention.
  2. Face identity: Read the denomination, date and railway subject as one combination. A close image should preserve adjacent inscriptions and part of the border.
  3. Numbering: Keep the whole serial line visible and state whether any digit is obscured. Consecutive numbers should be claimed only when all relevant notes are shown separately.

Continue with series and denomination context

Relevant issues can be browsed in the First Series Renminbi, and the First Series Renminbi: Denominations, Designs and Evidence shows how to compare values without transferring details between notes. The printed 50 Yuan item remains the deciding evidence.

Upload both complete faces and the number line through the About Gu Jin Jian Bao | Collection Enquiries; send a brief follow-up via WhatsApp at +852 9834 2057, or ring +852 9834 2057. Keep this railway note in a separate image group and identify any edge, digit or condition point that needs attention.

Which features establish the 1949 50 Yuan Train note?

An uncropped front image should connect the 1949 date and 50 Yuan inscription with the Train subject. Record the reverse and full border before considering a finer type.

Why must the denomination stay in the train photograph?

Railway subjects occur at other values. The visible 50 Yuan inscription, nearby text and complete design prevent details from another denomination being transferred to this banknote.

How should folds or repaired edges be shown?

Locate each crease, tear, water stain, pressed area or repair on the full affected side, then add a close view. Leave the paper untreated and keep weak corners free of new tape.
