Item details and appraisal notes

This 1949 First Series Renminbi Wanshou Hill B 20 Yuan note should not be identified from the hill subject alone. Photograph the complete front with the 20 Yuan value, date, Version B designation and border, then add the reverse at equal scale. Evidence from Version A, a 100 Yuan design or another banknote must not be transferred to this item.

Wanshou Hill B 20 Yuan: isolate the B-version evidence

Attribution boundaryConfirm the Wanshou Hill B 20 Yuan version from readable details on this physical note, not from a related Version A note.

Keep every version detail tied to a complete face

First image pair: Photograph both sides square to the camera with a clear margin around all edges. The Wanshou Hill B 20 Yuan subject, 1949 date and value should remain together under neutral light. A version close-up should follow only after the full face is secured.

Prefix and smaller characters: Include any visible prefix and whole serial with nearby print and paper tone. Try another lighting angle for a faint character while preserving its shape. Do not reconstruct a number or B-version feature from another note.

Wear, staining and treatment: Show folds, foxing, pinholes, water staining, torn corners, trimming, pressing, backing, tape and repair on the proper side. Pair an enlarged defect with its full-face locator and leave earlier work untouched.

Three boundaries when comparing A with B

  • Version evidence: The printed B designation, 20 Yuan value and date must be read on this note before the narrower name is accepted.
  • Paper observation: Neutral light records colour, raking light shows texture, and transmitted light is reserved for a watermark, thin area or repair that is visibly present.
  • Supporting items: Photograph a sleeve, album, label, certificate or holder separately if it survives. Contextual wording cannot replace the banknote's printed evidence.

Store the note without changing its current state

Use a flat dry support, avoid pressure on fragile edges and do not wash, iron, bleach, press or tape the paper. Keep water staining separate from any visible watermark. After the photographs, return the banknote to an inert sleeve away from direct light, heat and moisture.

Reading the wider First Series

Open the First Series Renminbi for related issues and use the First Series Renminbi: Denominations, Designs and Evidence to organise comparisons. Recheck every version point on the physical note.

Two other designs to examine separately

Send the B-version images and present condition through the About Gu Jin Jian Bao | Collection Enquiries; provide one close detail via WhatsApp at +852 9834 2057, or call +852 9834 2057. Identify any weak character and note whether original storage material remains with the banknote.

常見問題點擊展開答案

How should the Wanshou Hill B 20 Yuan version be checked?

Confirm the Wanshou Hill B 20 Yuan designation on the complete 1949 face with its value, date and border. The reverse should be photographed before a finer comparison is made.

What if the B-version printing is weak?

Keep the full location visible and try a second neutral light angle. Do not enhance, redraw or borrow a character from Version A.

Which material may add storage context?

A surviving sleeve, album, label, certificate or holder can be photographed separately and once beside the note. Its wording cannot replace printed evidence.
