People's Bank of China information cited for the Third Series 1 Jiao identifies three varieties. The first was issued on 20 April 1962 at 115 × 52 mm; the second on 10 January 1966 at 105 × 50 mm; and the third on 15 December 1967 at 105 × 50 mm. All three ceased circulation on 1 July 2000.

Dates and dimensions organise the broad groups but do not identify a physical note by themselves. Names such as Red 1 Jiao or Green Back also need support from complete faces, colour, paper, any visible watermark, prefix and serial, and the printing form actually present.

Photographs that separate the three 1 Jiao varieties

1. Complete front and reverse: Use the same neutral light for both faces and keep every corner and cut edge inside the frame. Avoid filters that shift red, brown or green tones, because colour must remain comparable across the complete design.
2. Prefix and number line: Show the full prefix and serial only when present, including Roman characters, Arabic numerals, alignment and surrounding paper. Give each note its own photographs when several examples are being examined.
3. Paper under transmitted light: Add an evenly backlit view only when a watermark, thickness change, repaired patch or other paper feature can genuinely be seen. Record its position without assigning a variety from backlighting alone.
4. Printing layers: Use gentle raking light on the design, inscriptions and denomination to show ink relief or surface disturbance. Do not scrape the print or press the paper while checking texture.

Condition and storage evidence

Begin with the four corners, then locate central folds, edge splits, pinholes, foxing, ink marks, water staining, cleaning, pressing and corner repair on the affected side. If the banknote is inside a brittle or adhering sleeve, photograph the enclosure and do not force the paper out. A surviving grading holder, receipt, album or consecutive group should be shown separately while its original order is retained.

Leave stains and folds untreated. Water, ironing, bleach, adhesive and heavy pressure can alter fibres or hide an earlier repair. Store the paper flat in a suitable inert sleeve or neutral holder, away from damp, direct light and objects placed on top.

Several 1 Jiao banknotes can first be separated by complete design and overall colour, then examined one by one for numbering, transmitted-light paper and printing layers. Keep the front, reverse and details of each item together; an original consecutive group or shared provenance should remain in its existing order.
