Item details and appraisal notes
This 1953 Second Series Renminbi 2 Jiao note should be documented independently from the 1 Jiao and 5 Jiao denominations. Start with the whole front and reverse so the date, 2 Jiao value and complete border stay connected. Add numbering or paper observations only when the relevant feature is present.
2 Jiao in 1953: separate denomination evidence from paper condition
| Evidence group | Supported reading |
|---|---|
| Series | Second Series Renminbi |
| Printed year | 1953 |
| Denomination | 2 Jiao |
| Main design | Not named; the full printed faces must support any narrower description. |
| Limit | A different Second Series denomination cannot provide an unclear character, serial digit, watermark or condition detail for this note. |
A practical route from whole note to paper detail
First image pair: Keep both faces square, colour accurate and at the same scale, including every corner and cut edge. The date and 2 Jiao value should be legible without relying on a crop.
Inscription and numbering views: After the complete pair, photograph the denomination, surrounding wording and any prefix or serial actually visible. Preserve spacing and leave a covered or abraded position unresolved.
Condition locations: Map edge tears, folds, pinholes, foxing, water staining, adhesive residue, pressing, backing and repair to the side where each occurs. Pair every close detail with its uncropped locator image.
Do not change the evidence while checking it
Treatment caution: Avoid washing, bleaching, ironing, pressure and new tape. These interventions may alter tone, flatten texture or obscure an older repair.
Paper-feature caution: Use transmitted light only if a watermark, thin patch or repaired area is visible. Neutral light remains the correct view for stains and general paper colour.
Number-line caution: Keep any prefix and full serial together in one frame. Never complete a missing digit from a similar note or a remembered sequence.
Temporary storage with minimal handling
Work over a clean dry support and move the paper only as needed for the reverse. Photograph a surviving album, sleeve, label, certificate or holder separately, then place the note in an inert sleeve away from damp and sunlight.
Second Series references for orientation
The Second Series Renminbi shows nearby denominations, and the Older Renminbi: First, Second and Third Series Layouts and Inspection offers a careful image-checking method. Neither source replaces direct evidence from the 2 Jiao note.
Two higher denominations to examine separately
