Establishing the T80 Pig grid before close inspection
Issue identity: Count the full 8 × 10 Pig arrangement on a level front view and retain any marginal lettering. The T80 code, 8-fen value and 5 January 1983 issue date should be readable without cropping a corner.
Paper, gum and size: Measure a 26 × 31 mm position with its complete teeth visible. Turn the supported sheet for the gum view and use raking light on bends, thins or patches of uneven sheen.
Condition map: Link every stain, crease, separation and missing tooth to a numbered T80 position. The pig design repeats, so a detail photograph needs neighbouring stamps or a grid reference to prevent ambiguity.
Turning the T80 sheet without stressing its grid
Support all ten columns before reversing the Guihai-year sheet. Keep mounts, sleeves and backing paper in their original relationship, and never tug at a joined edge to expose more gum.
T80 completeness, grid faults and surviving margins
- Perforations and margins: Check P11.5 at the perimeter and each visible intersection. An incipient split, shortened tooth or detached corner must be shown with adjacent Pig stamps, not as a floating macro image.
- Completeness: Reconcile the 80 front positions with the reverse and identify substitutions or losses by row and column. Do not describe a part-sheet as complete because every remaining stamp has the same design.
- Album and packaging: Photograph any envelope, dealer note, album page or interleaf before separation. Its association may clarify storage history, while actual margins and gum establish the T80 sheet's condition.

Questions before an appraisal
What should you check before selling?
What matters depends on the item. Photograph both sides, the edge, hallmarks or base marks, and any damage. Include the original box, certificate or weight information where relevant so we can decide whether an in-person inspection is needed.
